Barrier Reef Institute of TAFE, Townsville Trade Training Centre
A symbolic sod-turning ceremony held on Thursday 14 August 2009 marked the start of construction of the Barrier Reef Institute of TAFE, Townsville Trade Training Centre. With final design details almost complete, foundations laid and groundworks in place, the site is well on its way.
Education and Training Minister Geoff Wilson said the project would provide training in key industries including; automotive, building and construction, manufacturing, engineering, electrical, electronics and sustainable technologies.
"The centre will include state-of-the-art training workshops and a high-quality learning environment with leading-edge facilities and training equipment using new and emerging technologies," Minister Wilson said.
Apprentices will head to the training centre in mid 2010 to learn in a new facility that will cater for traditional and emerging trades in a purpose-built facility on Ingham Road, in the Townsville suburb of Bohle.
