The VET in Schools program guide 2010 (PDF 1.46MB) is available for you to view on-line and download. Find out what's on offer in 2010.

The New Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) will provide young people with more opportunities to select programs that include a broader range of education and training options - particularly vocational education and training (VET) pathways.

Students will be eligible for points on completion or part-completion of certificates towards their QCE.

Completed VET Certificates will attract the following credit:

The application of credits to part-completed VET qualifications is based on a percentage of the total competencies in the particular qualification.

Individual competencies will be recorded in the students' Learning Account, but it is only when a specified amount of learning in that vocational area has been achieved that those competencies will contribute as a credit towards the QCE.

Partly completed VET Certificates II and above will attract credit detailed below:

To be able to report enrolments, results and other relevant information for the Education and Training Reforms for the Future (ETRF) cohort to QSA, the Institute requires the Learning Unique Identifier (LUI) for all school students at or before the time of enrolment.

School based programs are also available to high schools where they share the Institute's registration of courses. The schools must meet the same human and physical resource criteria as the Institute. The schools teach and assess the competencies using the Institute's guidelines. The students are enrolled through the Institute and receive a TAFE Result of Assessment.

Certificates

Vocational education and training is very different to the school curriculum. It is competency based training. Successful completion of programs can lead to the achievement of nationally accredited qualification at six different certificate levels. Qualifications gained in Queensland can be transferred interstate and can be continued or built upon anywhere in Australia:

The Vet in Schools Program can lead students into traineeships, apprenticeships and enhance their employment opportunities. The options are flexible and meant to increase the students' skills and opportunities to a rewarding career path. For further information please contact Vet in Schools Program.
