School-based apprenticeships and traineeships

The Barrier Reef Institute of TAFE is offering school-based apprenticeships and traineeships for school students to undertake as part of their senior schooling years.

School-based apprenticeships and traineeships allow you to work for an employer and undertake training towards a recognised qualification, while completing your secondary school studies.

School

While undertaking a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship you continue to attend school and it is possible to work towards an Overall Position (OP) Score.

The qualification of competencies you complete during your school-based apprenticeship or traineeship may count towards your Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) and will be recognised wherever you go in Australia.

Training and Work

School-based apprenticeships and traineeships involve a mix of studying at high school, training and work. The training and/or work component will become part of your school timetable.

You must undertake a minimum of 48 hours of work each year. The days you go to work are flexible and will depend on your employer's needs.

Contact your school Career Adviser for more information on school-based apprenticeships and traineeships.
