Modes of Study

A range of flexible approaches to providing education and training, giving learners greater choice of when, where and how they learn. Flexible delivery may involve distance education, mixed-mode delivery, on-line education and self-paced learning.

Online education

Students studying at TAFE have a variety of study options including full and part time study, and flexible and self-paced studies. With the introduction of internet delivery and learning support you now have another mode of study here at the Barrier Reef Institute of TAFE. TAFE Open Learning will allow you to study wherever you have a PC. You can stay online and study by being connected to the internet, or download your files from the internet and study at your convenience or participate in streamed learning modules.

Distance education

(Also called: external studies) A mode of education in which students enrolled in a course do not attend the institution, but study off-campus and may submit assignments by mail or email.

Mixed-mode delivery

(Also called: mixed delivery) A combination of learning modes to deliver a course or mode, such as distance education and face-to-face study in classes, tutorials, practical sessions or workshops.

Self-paced learning

Learning undertaken at a student's own pace.
